Rata is cute and she quite likes broccoli. She likes to eat it while we’re pootling about in the garden. This is the one piece of fabric I haven’t packed up ready for moving house, and when I asked Rata if she’d like a skirt made out if it she said ‘This fabric has broccoli on it!” I looked at it again and thought ‘oh yes, so it does’ and they do say that eating broccoli is eating properly.
The fabric came from a garage sale and it is a teeny tiny remnant. I measured her waist, cut out a waistband, worked out how wide her skirt needed to be at the bottom and cut out a rectangle. There’s a single seam in the back of the skirt where a zip goes. I gathered it to fit the waistband, put in a buttonhole and hemmed it. The cute button was peering out at me from the jar of buttons Louis’ aunty gave me. This also happened with a button last week – I think there is a very helpful button ghost living in that jar.
When I put the skirt on Rata I found that it was quite big, so I did that age-old trick of taking it in on each side – years of wear are ahead of her!
Naturally we had to take pictures beside some broccoli in the garden, which ended up being chomped. Long may her enthusiasm for such vegetables last.
