Good afternoon and good day. Here in Holloway Road it is only 3.12pm, yet the sun has been well and truly gone from the house and back yard for at least forty minutes. Nicole left in disgust for sunnier parts of the city, but as my cheeks are a bit sunburnt, I feel as though I have my own supply to keep me going. Let us get this food blog-itty in motion.
Palagi Pani Popo. You can find the recipe for that over here. Well and truly the most unhealthy thing I have made in my life, full stop. You can see other comments to that effect on the original post.
Gherkins. I do like a good, crunchy, spicy gherkin. Store-bought don’t cut it for me anymore, they just taste like lollies. I opened the jar on the left the other day, they are everything I wished for and more. I made several batches over a few weeks, I only hope the other batches are as good as this.
Hot cross buns. I do solemnly swear to make these every year. From the Ladies, A Plate book, truly the largest culinary undertaking for me in a long time, possibly in forever. But they worked, goddamit. They worked. The recipe is very long, and too much bother to type out, but if you are desperate, why not put your money where your mouth is and purchase your own copy? You will not regret it, promise.
Since making these (and wasting the left over batter) I have acquired a second gem iron! So in future there will be more gems to go around. I have also got the hang of greasing the tins, so it should be a breeze. Another recipe from Ladies, A Plate. I implore you, once again, to get your own copy.
And just when you thought I’d never make you dinner, here are some potatoes. The kind of baked potatoes you could take to a potluck without feeling lame and uninteresting. You could steal the thunder from all those elaborate lentil pies and vegan creme brulees with your understated and effortless sense of purpose. I did also make some cannelloni for the first time in my life when Nicole arrived, but there are no pictures that I know of. Ah, blogging. Without a digital camera, you are no one!
Nicole… take it from there. Show us your burritos!
